How to commission a piece of music

What does it cost?

The cost of a commission depends on three things; the length of the work, the forces involved, and the imminence of the deadline. To give you some idea a short, 3 or 4 minute piece for SATB choir would cost around £500 if there were approximately a 3 month deadline. An orchestral piece of 5 minutes in length would cost around £2,000. Such a piece would need at least 4 months composing time.
